'Creativity can be defined as the process by which ideas are generated, connected and transformed into things that are valued.'

Richard Florida:

Technology is a subset of a much broader class of human activity. And that broader set of human activities is ‘creativity’. And we have creativity across many, many dimensions. Certainly technological creativity – the ability to invent new products and processes – is key. But you also have to have economically creative people – entrepreneurs – who take those technologies and turn them into commercial innovations. And you need aesthetic and design and cultural and artistic and musical creativity. And you need civic and political and policy creativity. And when those all come together, when those all blend and become synergistic, that’s when you get a major growth centre of the world economy. From Athens to Venice to Rome to Florence, Berlin, Paris, London, Amsterdam, New York and San Francisco – all of those places are broadly creative centres. Not just uni-dimensionally creative centres, but broadly creative centres.
